Begun in 2006 by Father Desmond Crotty, this small band of samaritans has helped feed thousands on the streets of New Orleans. After Father Desmond's passing, the project was incorporated and named in his honor. It continues to provide fresh and healthy food to the street community every Saturday evening.
The mission of The Desmond Project is simple: serve anyone and everyone who is hungry in New Orleans. We are not affiliated with any specific faith, and we come from a wide range of cultural, spiritual, and socio-economic backgrounds.
We are currently preparing food at:
First Grace United Methodist Church
3401 Canal Street (at the corner of Canal Street and Jefferson Davis Hwy.),
New Orleans, 70119
Preparation is from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM
We are currently serving food at:
INSIDE The New Orleans Mission (1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th Saturdays of the month)
NO FOOD LINE ON THE 3RD SATURDAY OF THE MONTH
The New Orleans Mission is located at 1130 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. (just off of Calliope near the Crescent City Connection)
