Begun in 2006 by Father Desmond Crotty, this small band of samaritans has helped feed thousands on the streets of New Orleans. After Father Desmond's passing, the project was incorporated and named in his honor. It continues to provide fresh and healthy food to the street community every Saturday evening.
The Desmond Project is entirely volunteer-run, so we count on people like you to help us, whether it's donating time, money, or food. Everyone can get involved in one way or another.
Make a financial contribution!
Operating one day a week makes it easy to get involved. We start cooking at 5:00 PM each Saturday and end by 8:00 PM. It's always best to contact us ahead of time so we know who to expect. Send us an email and let us know you want to get involved. We will put you on our mailing list so you are always in the loop about Desmond Project activities!
We are currently looking for partner organizations to donate food for our foodline. Helping us with our main expense (food) can greatly relieve our financial burden. We are especially searching for grocers with access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and can offer receipts for tax relief. Please send us an email with "Food Donation" in the subject line, and indicate whether your donation is a one-time donation, or can be offered regularly.
Money talks, and we are listening!! Help us feed fellow New Orleanians by donating today! With your support, we can put a dent in this city's hunger problem for good! All contributions are welcome!
